Bertha Phillips Ramey

Bertha Phillips Ramey, 96, of Clayton, died Saturday, May 20, 2017, at her home.

Born in Cookeville, Tennessee, on Jan. 27, 1921, she was the daughter of the late John Wesley Phillips and Vera Rae Phillips. She was a homemaker and a restaurant cook and a Baptist by faith. She was the widow of William Edward Ramey.

She was preceded in death by her parents, her husband and by four sons, Earl Ramey, Fred Ramey, Russell Ramey and Will Raymond Ramey, and by two daughters, Juanita and Myrtle Bell Ramey. 

She is survived by two sons, Robert Ramey (Gladys) of Clayton and James Ramey (Donna) of Barnesville, two daughters, Lola Beasley of Clayton and Lula Rose Shirley of Cornelia, 16 grandchildren, 36 great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren, and one daughter-in-law, Joyce Ramey

Funeral services were Tuesday, March 23, 2017, at the Eastside Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home at 11 a.m., conducted by the Rev. Larry Cannon and Layman Lloyd Hunter, with the Rev. Joe McCrackin at graveside. Burial was in the Dixon Cemetery in the Chechero Community.

The body was at Hunter Funeral Home, with visitation on Monday, May 22, 2017, at the Eastside Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. The family was at the home.
