Horace Franklin Dills, 73, of Rabun Gap, died Saturday, May 6, 2017, at Northeast Georgia Medical Center in Gainesville. He was the husband of Carlene Hembree Dills.
Born in Rabun County on Dec. 20, 1943, he was the son of the late Arthur Dills and Ester Carpenter Dills. He was a carpenter and a member of the Calvary Baptist Church. He was an avid coon hunter and fisherman.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Arthur and Ester Dills, by three brothers, Dewey, Robert and Lester “Jaybird” Dills, one sister, Hazel Tolmin and one grandchild, Brandy Watson.
He is survived by his wife, Carlene Dills of the home, by two sons, Jeffery Dills of Falls, Ohio, Ben Sheffield (Katie) of Roswell, three daughters, Melinda Watson of Tellico, Tennessee, Kristina (Mark) Hunter of Rittman, Ohio, and Allison Bartlett of Tennessee, three sisters, Doris Dills McCoy of Tiger, Martha Dills Long of Otto, North Carolina, and Bernice Dills Wood of Clayton, eight grandchildren, (granddaughters), Amber, Andrea Amy, Brittany, Kassie, (grandsons), Dustin, Kamden and Laeton and one great-granddaughter, Rhylee. Several nephews, nieces and cousins also survive.
Funeral services were 2 p.m. Tuesday, May 9, 2017, at the Eastside Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home, with the Revs. Carl Carpenter, Bobby Cloer and Mike McConnell officiating. Burial followed in the Head of Tennessee Baptist Church Cemetery in Dillard.
Serving as pallbearers were Jerry Dills, Fred Dills, Greg Long, Matt McClain, David Thomas and Jeremy Shafer.
The body was at Hunter Funeral Home, where the family received friends Monday evening, May 8, 2017, at the Eastside Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. The family was at the home of his nephew, Jerry Dills on Dills Lane Rabun Gap.
