Samuel Foster, 86, of Clayton, passed away May 15, 2016, at his residence.
He was born Feb. 27, 1930, the son of the late Frank and Blonie Forester Foster. Sam was also preceded in death by his son Mike Foster, five brothers Robert, Ray, Andy, Paul and Jack Foster, and two sisters, Velma Webb and Peggy Ramey.
He is survived by his wife, Betty Foster, who he married in 1951; this July would have been their 65th wedding anniversary. Also surviving is one son, Sammy Foster of Dublin; two daughters, Sandra Foster of Clayton, and Linda Foster Duncan of Royston; three brothers, Lester Foster of Rabun Gap, Donald Foster of Toccoa, and Doug Foster of Clayton; six grandchildren, 11 great-grandchildren and one great-great-grandchild.
After serving his country in the Korean War, he returned to Rabun County. He attended trade school and received with a degree in electrical and plumbing. Sam was a very familiar face in Clayton; he could be found in the Clayton Fire House for more than 30 years where he served his community as a fireman for the Clayton Fire Department. He also served as a volunteer with Rabun Rescue Squad and was a member of the American Legend.
He loved working in his flowers and in his yard. Sam enjoyed sitting on his porch looking at the beauty. He was the best father ever, and received the father of year award from FAITH. Sam spoiled Betty wife with love, compassion and kindness.
The family received friends Wednesday, May 18, 2016, at Beck Funeral Home from 1-2 p.m., with a Celebration of Life Service to follow at 2 p.m. in the Chapel of Beck Funeral Home, with the Revs. David Crunkleton and Leon Miller officiating. The McDonald’s coffee club has been asked to serve as honorary pallbearers, along with Jody Taylor.
In lieu of flowers, the family has asked that donations be made to Wounded Warrior Project, P.O. Box 758516, Topeka, Kansas, 66675-8516.
