Allan Bond White, 86, of Dillard, Ga. passed away in Lawrenceville, Ga., May 4, 2019, after a short illness. Allan was born January 15, 1933, in Savannah, Ga., the daughter of the late Augustus Godin Guerard Bond and Elizabeth Allan Stewart Bond. She graduated from Pape Preparatory School for girls in Savannah and earned a business degree from Armstrong College. She made her debut while at Armstrong College and became a member of the Savannah Junior League, then in later years transferred her membership to the Atlanta Junior League. While still in Savannah, she was employed by Savannah Electric and Power in a bookkeeping position.
Allan moved to Atlanta and worked for an accounting firm as a bookkeeper. While in Atlanta, she met and married Robert Francis White of Athens. The couple, along with their daughter Allan, moved to Ocilla, Georgia in 1965. She grew up a member of the Saint John’s Episcopal Church in Savannah and transferred her membership to the Ocilla United Methodist Church. For many years Allan taught children’s Sunday School, was active in the United Methodist Women and was the Memorial Chairwoman of the American Cancer Society for Irwin County. She was also employed by the Irwin County Board of Education, serving in many capacities.
In 1983 the family moved to Dillard, Ga. During her time in Dillard, she was employed by Karen’s Hallmark Shop, April Leigh’s Boutique, United Community Bank and Mine and Yours. Allan transferred her church membership to Clayton First United Methodist Church. For several years, Allan was a member of the Grace Green Guild and was the Treasurer and Chairman of Social Concerns. Allan was a founding member of the Lunch Bunch women’s small group. Her hobbies included crochet, knitting, needle point, playing bridge with her friends and reading.
Allan was preceded in death by: her husband, Robert F. White; a sister, Camilla Bond Fields, and a brother, Augustus Godin Guerard Bond, Jr. She is survived by her sister, Elise Bond Varnedoe of Albuquerque; daughter and son-in-law Allan White Fowler and Bruce Fowler; grandson, Austin Stewart Fowler, wife Alley and great granddaughter Myla; granddaughter Rachel Allyn Fowler; along with many nieces and nephews.
A Memorial Service will be held at Clayton First United Methodist Church, 71 South Main Street, Clayton, Ga. 30525 on Saturday, May 18, 2019. Visitation will begin at 1 p.m. in the social hall, with the service following at 3 p.m. in the sanctuary with the Reverend Zack Martin officiating.
