Jessie Faye ‘Ritchie’ Kilby

Jessie Faye “Ritchie” Kilby, 84, of Clayton, died Saturday morning, Aug. 20, 2016, at Traces of Tiger.

She was the wife of Virgil Kilby.

Born in Rabun County on Aug. 7, 1932, she was the daughter of the late Ed and Varina Burrell Ritchie. She was preceded in death by a sister, Ethel Lee Lakey, and by two brothers, Frank and Robert Ritchie. 

She owned and operated Kilby’s Transmissions in Hapeville from 1962-89, and then moved back to Rabun County and operated Kilby’s Transmission for several years in Clayton. She was of the Baptist faith.

She is survived by her loving husband of many years, Virgil Kilby of the home, by two sons, Dale (Jody) Kilby of Mountain City and Eddie Kilby of Mountain City, by a brother, Tom (Julie) of Flowery Branch, and two sisters, Clara (Earl) Zoellner of Dillard and Grace (Harrison) Watts of Mountain City. Five grandchildren, six great-grandchildren and several nieces and nephews also survive.

A celebration of life was at the Eastside Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home on Sunday, Aug. 21, 2016, at 4 p.m., with the Revs. Rondal Owen and Danny Cannon officiating. Following the service, the body was cremated and a private family graveside service will be held at a later date.

The body was at Hunter Funeral Home and visitation was at the Eastside Chapel from 3-4 p.m., the funeral hour. The family was at the home of her sister and brother-in-law Grace and Harrison Watts on Theodore Street in Mountain City. 

In lieu of flowers, memorial donations may be made in her honor to the Sid Weber Memorial Cancer Fund, P.O. Box 485, Rabun Gap, Georgia 30568. 

Hunter Funeral Home was in charge of the arrangements.
