Netherland ‘Neb’ Ray Speed

Netherland “Neb” Ray Speed, 80, of Clayton, passed away Aug. 13, 2017.

Neb was born the son of the late Marlor Calvin Speed Sr. and late Amanda Norton Speed in 1937.

Neb was a lifetime resident of Clayton, and attended the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church. He worked for the U.S. Forest Service and also helped his brothers in the saw milling business. 

Neb enjoyed nature and being in the outdoors. He loved to spend time in the woods where he enjoyed hunting and fishing. 

In addition to his parents, Neb was preceded in death by; three brothers, Marlor Calvin Speed Jr., John Pick Speed and Donald Speed; and one sister, Bernice Speed.

His survivors include his brothers, Milton Speed and Noah Melvin Speed (Mattie), both of Clayton, as well as many nieces and nephews.

The family received friends Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017, at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, in the Old Church Building from 2–4 p.m.

A funeral service was held Wednesday, Aug. 16, 2017, at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, in the Old Church Building, at 4 p.m., with the Revs. Raymond Page and Larry Cannon officiating.

Interment followed the service in the cemetery of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.
