Erwin John Gribble Sr., 74, of Otto, North Carolina, passed away on Thursday, May 11, 2017.
Born in Macon County, he was the son of the late Audell and Altha Brackett Gribble.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by a brother, Mitchell Gribble, and two granddaughters, Jadea and Jori Gregory.
Erwin worked as a maintenance supervisor for Fruit of the Loom and was a founding member of Otto Volunteer Fire Department. He enjoyed building and flying model airplanes; he was a member of the Macon Aero Modelers Club and the Beekeeper’s Association.
He is survived by his beloved wife of 54 years, Eloise Cabe Gribble of Otto; two children, Benita Gregory and husband Tony of Franklin, North Carolina, and Johnny Gribble and wife Gina of Otto; one brother, Lonnie Gribble and wife Darlene of Franklin; one sister, Shirlene Waldroop of Hayesville, North Carolina; six grandchildren and four great-grandchildren.
A funeral service was held at 3 p.m. Sunday, May 14, in the Chapel of Macon Funeral Home. Bill Williamson officiated. Burial was in Woodlawn Cemetery.
The family received friends from 2-3 p.m. prior to the service at the funeral home.
Pallbearers were members of Otto Volunteer Fire Department. Retired members of Otto VFD and members of the Macon Aero Modelers Club served as honorary pallbearers.
