Irene ‘Granny’ Dockins

Irene “Granny” Dockins, 83, passed away Wednesday, April 26, 2017, while in Mountain View Nursing Home. 

Irene was born Sept. 4, 1933, to the late Cecil and Bertha Moore Queen, both of Clayton. She worked for 33 years at Ridgecrest Hospital as a nurse’s assistant before going into retirement.

Irene loved spending time with her family, taking care of her animals, crocheting and watching wrestling.

Irene was preceded in death by two sons, Stephen Gipson of Clayton and David Dockins of Cornelia, a sister, Ms. Bernice Kovacik of Toccoa and a brother, Mr. Ralph Queen of Scottsdale, Arizona.

She is survived by two sons, Mike Queen of Clayton; and Allen Dockins (Missy) of Villa Rica; one sister, Ms. Ruth Smith of Toccoa; grandsons, Micheal Queen (Jennifer) of Dallas; Bo Queen (Angel) of Clayton; David Dockins (Kyla) of Cornelia; Jable Alley of Villa Rica, and granddaughters Lela Dockins of Villa Rica and Macey Dockins of Villa Rica. Great-grandchildren Trey Queen, Nicole Queen, Calen Queen, Jason Queen, Madison Queen, Wyatt Queen, Brady Queen and Kalie Queen, and several nieces and nephews also survive.

 The body has been cremated and a memorial service will be held Saturday, May 6, 2017, at the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home, with Layman Lloyd Hunter officiating.

The family will be receiving friends at the Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home on Saturday, May 6, 2017, from 1-2 p.m. (the service hour). The family is at their respective residences.
