Andrew ‘Drew’ Judson Speed

Andrew “Drew” Judson Speed, 68, of the Warwoman Community, passed away Tuesday morning, April 18, 2017, at the home of his daughter, Cindi Freeman, in Clayton.

He was born in Rabun County on Dec. 28, 1948, and was the son of the late Leroy Speed and Elise Speed Lee. He was the widower of Susan Teague Speed (Cobb). He was a carpenter in the building industry and enjoyed woodworking as a hobby and was a member of the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church.

Drew was preceded in death by his wife of 42 years, Susan and his parents, Leroy and Elise. 

He is survived by a son and daughter-in-law, Brian and Angelia Speed, of Clayton, and a daughter and son-in-law, Cindi and Darren Freeman, of Clayton, two brothers and sisters-in-law, Calvin and Bonnie Speed of Clarkesville, and Bobby and Linda Speed of Clayton and one sister Beulah Love of Mountain City. He is also survived by four grandchildren, D’Anna Freeman, Dakota Freeman (Jenna), Dalton Freeman, and Andrew “Skip” Speed and two great-grandchildren, Canci and Calli Freeman. He is also survived by special brothers-in-law and sisters-in-law, Dan and Martha Teague, Randy Teague, Dee Speed, Greg and Pam Speed, Karen and Bill Watkins and Henry Williamson, and also several nieces and nephews.

Funeral services were at 3 p.m. Thursday, April 20, 2017, at the Pleasant Hill Baptist Church, with the Rev. Raymond Page officiating. Burial was in the church cemetery.

The body was at Hunter Funeral Home where visitation will be from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, April 19, 2017.

The family was at the home of his daughter and son-in-law, Cindi and Darren Freeman on Warwoman Road in Clayton.
