Bud McClanahan

Bud McClanahan, 87, of Clarkesville, passed away Nov. 25, 2016. 

He was the son of the late Revo Jones McClanahan and Lottie Shephard McClanahan. 

He was preceded in death by his loving wife, Marguerite McClanahan, and one brother, Bob McClanahan. 

He is survived by his son, Jeff McClanahan (Mary Ellen) of Atlanta; one daughter, Jan McClanahan of Lakemont; two stepsons, Jim Grant of Carrollton and Jeff Grant of Cumming; three brothers, Jack, Bill and Larry McClanahan; three sisters, Dorothy Clayton, Janie McCray and Rita Lance; four step-grandchildren, Joshua, Michael, Brian and Melony Grant, as well as a host of nieces and nephews. 

Bud was a professional contractor and developer in Atlanta and in later years owned and operated Mr. Bud’s Campground and Storage at Lake Burton. In his retirement, he found sanctuary at his home on the calming waters of Seed Lake and was influential as the first president of the Seed Lake Association. 

Bud remained a devout Christian throughout his life, and his service to God and his community were evident in his actions. He created a children’s bus ministry during his time at Red Oak Baptist Church in College Park, where he was a member and deacon. Upon his retirement, he relocated to Lake Seed, and joined the membership of Liberty Baptist Church in Tiger. He was integral in the construction of the educational building and sanctuary there.

Bud leaves a legacy of great love and devotion to his family and friends as well as his many selfless acts of kindness. 

The funeral was held at Liberty Baptist Church on Tuesday, Nov. 29, 2016, at 11 a.m. Interment was at Arlington Memorial Park in Sandy Springs.
