Wendell Howard Shirley

Wendell Howard Shirley, 75, passed away Friday, Nov. 25, at his home in Wiley. 

Wendell was born in Rabun County on July 21, 1941, to the late M.J. Shirley and Rose Holcomb Shirley. He was also preceded in death by an infant daughter, Cynthia Dawn Shirley, two brothers, Dudley Shirley and Curtis Shirley, and a sister, Peggy Duncan. 

He is survived by his wife, Faye Lovell Shirley of the home, a son, Wendell J. Shirley of the home, two daughters, Voncyle Towe of Westminster, South Carolina, and Teresa Smith of Lakemont, two sisters, Lorrayne Ramsey of Asheville, North Carolina, and Lavon Starnes of Lawrenceville, three grandchildren, James Dills, Sean Smith and Teddy Towe, and three great grandchildren, Jaycee Dills, Gunner Dills, and Kreedance Smith. 

Wendell loved his family — especially his children and great grandchildren. 

Wendell was retired from Rabun Mills and Burlington in the textile industry and was a member of the Lakemont Baptist Church. 

Visitation was at Hunter Funeral Home from 6-8 p.m. on Sunday, Nov. 27. 

Funeral services were held Sunday, Nov. 28, at the Lakemont Baptist Church with Pastor Jewell Gaines and the Rev. Bryan Alexander officiating. Burial was in the Wiley Presbyterian Cemetery.
