James Andrew Stephens, 73, of the Tiger community, passed away at his residence Tuesday, Oct. 4.
He was born March 13, 1943, in Rabun County, and was the son of the late John Hines Stephens and Catherine Watts Stephens. He was the husband of Lurlene Wilbanks Stephens of the home.
In addition to his wife, he is survived by his wife, and two daughters, Janice Pruitt (Robert) of Tiger and Tammy Fowler (Doug) of Winder. Five grandchildren, Anthony Patterson, Elizabeth Pruitt, Gregory Pruitt, Kimberly Pruitt and Charlie Mayfield, and 11 great-grandchildren also survive.
He is preceded in death by an infant brother, John Hines Stephens, and by a great-grandson.
Mr. Stephens was a retired insulator with the National Asbestos Work Co. He belonged to the 48 National Asbestos Union and was a member of the Joy Baptist Church.
The visitation was held at Eastside Chapel of Hunter Funeral Home on Thursday, Oct. 6, from 6-8 p.m. The funeral services were held at the Eastside Chapel on Friday, Oct. 7, with the Rev. Richard Dugas conducting the service. Burial was in the Wiley Presbyterian Cemetery.
