Troy Allen Tice

Troy Allen Tice, age 59 of Clayton, Ga, died Friday, May 31, 2019 surrounded by family and friends after a long-fought battle with an extended illness.  Born on October 4, 1959 at the United States Military Academy Hospital in West Point, New York, he was the only son of Mildred Alley Tice of Clayton and the late Leroy O. Tice, Jr of Augusta, Ga.  He was the grandson of the late Sarah Jane and Leroy O. Tice, Sr. of Augusta, Ga and the late Ellen and Paul Alley of Lakemont, Ga.  He was preceded in death by his wife of 17 years, Denise Jordan Tice from Toccoa, Ga.

Troy was from Lakemont, Georgia and was raised in Rabun County.  He attended Tallulah Falls School and graduated from Rabun County High School in 1977.  He attended North Georgia Technical School, graduating from the Tool & Die program.  He was a skilled machinist and spent over 25 years working in the Tool and Die industry.  Troy spent much of his working career and raised his family in the Athens area.  He enjoyed being a father to his sons and was very involved in their sports and activities as children and remained involved in their lives once grown.  In 2006, he returned to Clayton, GA and spent the rest of his years in the area that he considered home.

In addition to his mother, he is survived by his two sons, Joshua Perry Tice and Lane Allen Tice (Amy), both of the Atlanta area; three sisters, Ellen Speed of Clayton, Ann Bradshaw (Steve) of Clayton and Elizabeth Turner (Brian) of Long Creek, S.C. and aunt and uncle, Jane and Philip Mears of Marietta, Ga.  Troy had 7 nieces and nephews and 12 great nieces and nephews, all of whom he adored.  It was the highlight of Troy’s day when any of them came to visit.  He is also survived by numerous cousins.  Troy will also be remembered by the hundreds of friends whose lives he has touched.  Anyone who spoke of him invariable followed with the phrase “everybody loved Troy”.

Family and friends are invited to join the celebration of Troy’s life on Saturday, June 8, 2019at Lakemont Baptist Church, 608 W. Wolf Creek Rd, Lakemont, Ga.   Visitation will be from 3-4pm and the memorial service will begin at 4pm with Reverend Marty Dixon officiating.  Immediately following the service will be the spreading of the ashes. All family members are at their respective homes.

In lieu of flowers, the family is establishing a fund for a scholarship to be given in Troy’s memory benefiting a local student pursuing secondary education in Tool and Die or related field.  The donation link will be added once complete.   Alternatively, donations may be made to Lakemont Baptist Church, PO Box 546, Lakemont, Ga 30552.

As per Troy’s wishes, casual attire is suggested.
