Born Dec. 14, 1945, in Newcastle upon Tyne, England, to the late Lilian (Greaves) and the late Arthur L. Howe, he spent his formative years in England and Scotland. Upon leaving school, he served as an air traffic controller with the British Royal Air Force. He married Lydia Fell in Stockport, England, on March 20, 1976. The couple then moved to Sarasota, where they had four children.
Arthur Howe was a poet, adventurer, world traveler, scholar and gentleman. He devoted his life to his work as a sacred geometrist, studying Glastonbury Abbey in Glastonbury, England. A documentary he completed on the subject aired on the BBC in 2002. In 2010, he moved to Rabun County to spend his retirement years closer to his family.
Arthur delighted in his grandchildren and children, and was a beloved Daddy and Poppa. He will be eternally loved and missed by a family who remain inspired by his sense of wonder and relentless urge to explore the mysteries of the universe.
Per his wishes, Arthur will be cremated and his ashes will be scattered by the family in the places he most loved. A private service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, the family asks that you make a donation to Tallulah Gorge State Park, where Arthur spent many an afternoon walking, meditating and appreciating nature's beauty. Checks for the Arthur Howe Memorial Fund can be made out to Friends of TGSP and mailed to P.O. Box 156 Tallulah Falls, Georgia 30573.
